About Diego Pau

I am a Telecom Engineer from Vigo, Spain.

My professional experience has been closely bound to social apps. In 2010 I worked as backend/frontend developer in a social network for 40+ people, I was also in charge of the design of many of its screens.

I wrote a thesis based on social networks and web apps business model analysis.

Later on I was part of my first attempt of a startup. It was a social network for connecting small and medium companies with their clients. It didn’t work out but I learnt a lot and I started working with JustInMind Prototyper, the prototyping software I use.

In July 2013 I founded “chattyhive”, a social network and instant messaging app that allows users to chat anonymously about the things they love and gather in chat communities. I have been the CEO at chattyhive for almost 2 years and I am still actively working on it as UI/UX designer and CTO.

I started to work as a freelance on July, 2015. I have since there successfully completed several UI/UX projects, most of them with clients in the USA.

PRINCIPLES

COMMUNICATION
Time spent in clarify any aspect about the requirements and evolution of a project is never wasted time. Communication with my clients is essential all along the execution of the project to assure that the delivery will be satisfactory. I am always willing for a chat with my client to improve my understanding on the needs for every task. My spoken English is not brilliant, but should be more than enough to communicate.

MULTITASKING KILLS CREATIVITY
Haste is bad for design, I don't think anyone can do good designing or even good programming when time is the main restriction. That's why I will not accept projects with too tight deadlines or when the priority is to finish it as soon as possible. I am not an incredible fast developer / designer and I am proud of it. I like to ensure every step I take and to feel comfortable with the pace of the work I do, then creativity and good work take place. I never overlap more than two active projects so I can give at least 4 solid hours per day to each project.

ATTENTION TO DETAIL
I believe there is a certain degree of perfectionism in each good design or development out there. Each detail matter and any kind of mistake will be noticed by your users: an element that doesn't fit the app theme, a small problem in usability, lag in interface or network response or any kind of small bug in your software. We users are too used to a very high quality level in nowadays final products and our tolerance to issues is at its minimum.

HONESTY
Honesty is key to me. I don't want any disappointments when I start a new project and that's why I am not taking projects if I am not sure I can deliver in the schedule and quality required. I also will always give honest updates about the progress of the development.
